on tiptoe through the visible and the unseen

KABBAL BALLET
KABBAL BALLET began as a way of giving form to questions that have followed me for a long time, questions around identity, memory, belief, desire, mortality and the strange distance between what we experience internally and what can actually be seen. Photography, film, sound and image allow me to approach these questions without having to resolve them.
I am less interested in providing answers than in creating conditions in which something can be felt, observed or discovered.
Ritual has become increasingly important within this process.
I believe that we need anchors: gestures, objects, places and repeated acts that interrupt ordinary life and give certain moments weight. Without them, experience can easily become continuous and indistinguishable. A ritual creates a boundary. It marks something as significant.
This is also where the idea of the divine enters KABBAL BALLET.
I am interested in the human attempt to move closer to something that exceeds us.
KABBAL BALLET therefore exists somewhere between documentation and construction. The camera can record what is present, but it can also alter how a moment is perceived. An object can remain an object, yet through context and repetition become a symbol. A gesture can become a ritual. A person can simultaneously reveal themselves and remain unknowable.
The work follows these transformations. It searches for moments in which identity becomes unstable, the familiar becomes strange, or the visible appears to contain something beyond itself. Rather than presenting a fixed philosophy, KABBAL BALLET is a continuing attempt to observe these thresholds and to understand whether the anchors we create can bring us closer to something sacred.
